Mark Johnston

Personal Injury Lawyer Mark Johnston established Johnston Legal in 2013.


Education

Mark attended Wollongong High School before studying a combined Commerce Law degree at the University of Wollongong. Mark graduated in 1999 and was admitted as a solicitor in December 1999.


Experience

Mark worked as an employed solicitor for a Wollongong law firm from 1999 to 2009 specialising in litigation claims, with a particular emphasis on Personal Injury claims. Other areas of law included Local Court appearances and Employment Law claims, together with general civil litigation disputes.

In 2009 Mark became Manager of a branch office for a Sydney based law firm specialising in compensation claims. He continued in this role until late 2010 when the firm was acquired by a National compensation firm. In 2010 Mark was successful in gaining NSW Law Society Accredited Specialisation in Personal Injury Law.

From 2011 to late 2012 Mark worked as a Senior Associate for a National Compensation firm.


Sports & Community

Mark is a keen sportsman and has played cricket at Sydney first grade level. He continues to play first grade in the Illawarra competition for Keira, a club of which he is a Life Member. He is also President of the Illawarra Cricket Association. Other sporting interests include running (he has run 25 City2Surfs and 2 marathons), touch footy, yoga and watching NRL and AFL.

Sian Aldis

Criminal Lawyer Sian Aldis joined Johnston Legal in 2018.


Education

Sian completed a combined Arts and Law degree at the University of Western Sydney. Sian was admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW in 2006 and to the High Court of Australia in 2008. 


Experience

Prior to joining Johnston Legal, Sian exclusively practised criminal law and has amassed a wealth of experience working in private firms in Sydney and Wollongong, as well as working for the Legal Aid Commission of NSW, the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW / ACT and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Sian is an experienced advocate having represented clients in countless bail applications, local court hearings, committal hearings, sentencing hearings and appeals. Sian has appeared as sole advocate against Senior Counsel, instructed Senior Counsel in lengthy and complex trials and has represented clients in all NSW jurisdictions including the Criminal Court of Appeal. Sian has successfully applied for costs against the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Sian is a member of Legal Aid’s General and Serious Crime Panel.

Sian is experienced in a range of matters including traffic matters, apprehended domestic violence orders, drug matters, robbery, assault and sexual assault, fraud and murder. Sian understands the consequences a criminal charge can have in all aspects of a person’s life and Sian conducts every case with the objective of achieving the best possible outcome for her client.


Sports & Community

Sian loves living in the Illawarra and being part of the local community, and when she is not working you’ll find her out running, at the beach, or riding with the Wollongong Women’s Cycle Club.
